Perry is the daughter of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles were two appearances on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mother. Perry was forbidden to begin acting by her parents until she reached an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the stress it would cause. Perry was shy during high school and didn't act. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred from Boston University. Perry was able to land small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. However, her homesickness caused her to move back to California again where she began performing in the stage. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother in The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, she had a minor role on ABC's political thriller Scandal that starred her father. That same year her character was cast a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young character of her mom's character. The role was given by audition even though she was a cousin with the character.
